: [LodeRunner] Upload of converted levels
: win | koi | iso |

I modified my Hacker's Editor to convert the levels from Spoonbill
Software to files readable, and presumably playable, by the On-Line
version of Lode Runner. They probably would be playable by the Legend
Returns version, but my Hacker's Editor defaults to On-Line. I did a
quick test of each level and some levels required adjustment from
minor to major to play successfully on Online. I have finished my
quick test of seven files which have about 850 levels total. Puzzles
range from easy to difficult to a waste of time. Most are fun. All
are single player, no tools, five monks max, basic turf, no frills. I
added a skull gold to indicate editing (most of the time). The
background was automatically set by the Hacker's editor to change
every five levels. Monk regeneration points and exit points were
also generated by Hacker's editor. I have about 27 files left to test.

The files were uploaded to the "Remake Conversion" folder in the
LodeRunner group folder.

Enjoy

Jim

Most of them were converted. I am not sure if it was done by hand or software. Let me know what you think!

Enjoy!

Wow! Thanks, Jim, for all of this work! I am looking forward to giving
these levels a try.

Incidenetly, what are the source(s) of the Spoonbill levels? Are they
original or conversions from older versions of LR?

Thanks.

Anthony

I played through some of the levels in the "Pics" and "Chic" collections.
Lots of classic LR fun! Thanks.

I was not sure that one or two levels that I tried had solutions at first
glance, but that may be the fault of the original authors. I checked out
the Spoonbill page and it seems that some of the levels came from public FTP
sites with archives of user-created levels for the Apple II version of LR.

I think they all are solvable. I ran through most, if not all of them. If it seemed really obvious, but drawn out, I may not have played it. Check out the puzzle in the level editor if you wimp out :oP I may have had a lot of accidental perfect timing, monks regenerating at the optimal location, etc. to beat the level.

The two games - Spoonbill and Online have their differences. With Online, if a monk is blocked by turf and you zap it, the monk does not move unless you lead him out. With Spoonbill, the monk does not need to be led out. Also, with Spoonbill, you can zap turf while standing on a monk. The 'monk logic' is slightly different. The turf healing time is different. Ian Humphreys and Fred Pence did not disassemble the Apple ][ source to determine monk logic, they developed the rules from observation. Ian Humphreys sent me the Spoonbill Lode Runner file format document so that I could easily write a translator. I had to decipher the Online / Reterns myself. Fun; especially since it is compressed.

Please send me a list of levels that you have problems with and I'll try them.

: [LodeRunner] Puzzle Upload 662 puzzles

I just uploaded a file to Files / Remake Conversion / LrRemakeGp2.zip
Six files, 34 to 270 puzzles each, 662 puzzles total.

These are puzzles that I converted from the Spoonbill Software Lode
Runner Apple ][ Remake. The puzzles can be loaded with Lode Runner
Online. Difficulty ranges from very easy to nearly impossible. From
boring to quite sophisticated. Most are fun.

The Spoonbill remake is of the Apple ][ version and does not use
tools, bombs, lava turf, phase turf, sticky turf and other features
available on the Online version. So pretty much 0-5 monks, diggable
turf, solid turf, trapdoor turf, ladders, and monkey bars.

My conversion software has added exit doors. I have tested with the
editor and added zero to three skulls to indicate no to many changes.
There are differences between the monk behavior and turf regeneration
times that sometimes require changes to the levels. I also tested the
levels by playing the files from first to last level. So, they should
;-) all work.

If you find these levels interesting, please post comments as there
are several thousand more levels that I may convert!

Also check out my previous upload LrRemakeGp1.zip Hundreds of levels too.

Enjoy!
